Is it true that these aren't hobbies?

King Bringle: I don't think there is a true "correct" definition for a hobby. But in the past, hobbies used to be certain types of things --like sports, crafts, photography, reading, etc, so some people continue to think of them that way (e.g., your teacher).Nowadays there are many more things available that don't require action (though reading never involved "action," and "listening to music" was never able to be done like it is now primarily because of electronics--even watching tv very much is a relatively new phenomenon), and there are also things besides crafts/etc that don't give a finished product, that could be considered hobbies. Even stuff like daydreaming or socializing could be considered "hobbies." It's probably more helpful to think of things like all those as "interests." And the important question to consider might be what kind of things/areas you want to grow your brain in, and increase its knowledge and skill in... and whether something even challeng! es your brain or not (or how much). Therefore what also matters is which things you might *not* be growing your brain in because of the time spent pursuing other specific interests/hobbies (and how addictive those interests are). So though I think it's just a linguistic complexity and the way a particular person or part of society is used to using a word, etc, a lot of important ideas get brought up in thinking about "hobbies," etc.Diane B....Show more

Rana Rudell: A hobby is something you enjoy doing and relaxes you.Hobbies also develop as you become more interested. For example music you may decide to learn an instrument, write music or study the history of music.

Truman Biby: Certainly there are accountable breeders whose repute and the fine in their puppies is top adequate that the doggies promote for adequate $$ that they may be able to honestly earn cash at breeding. However - that's not actual for such a lot accountable breeders who breed sometimes and ! effortlessly can't/won't produce adequate doggies to develop a! s much as obtain the repute critical to earn cash for his or her breeders. I've made a benefit breeding - At one factor I made a complete 19 cents an hour on a clutter I bred... if I appear at the entire litters I've produced after which deduct the fees of purchasing top fine inventory, doing well being assessments, displaying the puppy (doggies with titled dad and mom promote for extra), deciding to buy gear as good as housing and fencing after which upload within the expenditures of breeding I could be at a loss. I have a buddy who's a keep at house unmarried mom who breeds puppies for a residing (as good as having youngster aid). In 2006 she grossed over $60,000 promoting top fine doggies from her exhibit champions at $2000 a work (30 doggies - four or five litters unfold out over the 12 months). By the time she was once performed along with her fees she had a benefit of $14K... by the point she paid taxes and so forth she was once all the way down to $11K - for a task t! hat she labored 24 hours an afternoon, 7 days per week. In my opinion there are a LOT higher methods to make an revenue with a LOT much less paintings....Show more

Von Houskeeper: I always thought that a hobby was something you did with your hands or collecting things, like an activity with a product, but I guess according to the definition in the dictionary you can just sit on your butt and that's a hobby.

Kim Gerbino: I'd have to look it up but I think listening to music is a pastime rather than a hobby.
