Mitchel Demry: People with UNTREATED mental health problems are at a much greater disadvantage than TREATED mental health problems. Also, people with records of mental health problems generally don't run into many problems because of their records. Legally you have every right to the same opportunities as anyone else. It's not a bad thing to see a psychiatrist or therapist and I'm glad you're considering it. Go for it! Getting help was the best thing I ever did for myself. It depends on whether you go to a therapist or psychiatrist how it will be treated. I go to both. Therapists will talk with you and help you sort out your issues. Psychiatrists will talk to you briefly and prescribe medication if they think it's needed. Shandi Wedge: Mental health problems are usually defined and classified to enable professionals to refer ! people for appropriate care and treatment. But some diagnoses are controversial and there is much concern in the mental health field that people are too often treated according to or described by their label. This can have a profound effect on their quality of life. Nevertheless, diagnoses remain the most usual way of dividing and classifying symptoms into groups.
